The plant will produce more than 50 million gallons of fuel ethanol ayear and purchase approximately $40 million worth of corn each year from predominately local growers. The plant will require approximately 18 million bushels of corn per year, which is the annual yield of over 120,000 acres of farmland.
The governor, the mayor and city manager of Marysville have already endorsed the project. "The positive impacts are numerous including direct benefit to the local agricultural community as a large outlet for corn sales, diversifying our economic base, 45 well paying permanent jobs and substantial tax base to support community services," city manager Jack Schumacher says.
Once operational, expected to be in early 2007, the plant would be the second ethanol plant in Michigan. Michigan Ethanol in Caro is the only operational ethanol plant in the state.
"We looked at several sites around North America and concluded that Marysville, Michigan is the location of choice to build this plant," says Aric Metevia, plant manager. "We appreciate the cooperation and support of the Michigan Economic Development Corp., EDA and City of Marysville officials in helping us move forward with this important development."
