All of the new stores, and most of the newly remodeled stores, will feature Seattles Best Coffee and gifts and stationery merchandise by Paperchase, which is a Borders-owned and operated company based in the United Kingdom.
The retailer, which operates 507 stores under the Borders name and 702 stores under the Waldenbooks, Borders Express and Borders Outlet brands, opened 19Borders superstores and completed 33 store remodels in 2004.
As part of its effort to improve sales and net income across the company, Borders plans to update and re-brand 75 to 100 Waldenbooks stores as Borders Express stores. This re-branding is a continuation of a market test that began in 2004 with the conversion of 37 Waldenbooks stores.
