At 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, speakers will address the report. Panelists will include Karen Anderson, NLC's past president and current mayor of Minnetonka, MN; Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper; and Steve Burkholder, mayor of Lakewood, CO. From 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., there will be various breakout sessions on the changing economy from service to knowledge. Nine rules of economic development will be detailed.
On Friday, from 8:30 a.m. until noon, workshops on local politics in a global era will address working with the private and independent sectors, action steps for economic vitality, and workforce development education. Then, Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley will chair an international task force workshop that will last until 5 p.m. The conference ends on Saturday, with a tour of Estes Park, CO, a mountain town. In addition to elected officials, executives from 3M, IBM and Wells Fargo Home Mortgage will be on hand to discuss what they look for in economic development and for office space needs.
