The company also operates mall store locations at the Palisades Center Mall in Nanuet in Rockland County, N.Y. and another in Southern California. The firm also operates a 100,000-sf showroom at 230 Atlantic St. in Stamford, CT, and a 50,000-sf warehouse/distribution facility on Market St. in Stamford as well.
Thomas O'Leary, senior director of Cushman & Wakefield of Connecticut, represented Safavieh in the lease negotiations. "Safavieh was focused on finding the ideal site to expand its retail operation," O'Leary says. "Danbury Fair Mall is centrally located and will reach a whole new customer base for Safavieh." Upon its opening, the new store will be among the largest at the Danbury complex.
Safavieh, founded in 1975 opened its first retail store on Madison Ave. in Manhattan. The retailer, named for a Persian dynasty in the 15th Century, operates nine Safavieh and two American Home Furniture stores in the tri-state area. Safavieh's expansion in the region also includes a planned flagship, 60,000-sf store in Glen Cove, Long Island and a new 45,000-sf location on Broadway and 21st St. in Manhattan, according to Cushman & Wakefield officials.
