Dori Biester, president and CEO of Children's Hospital, says they are building a "state-of-the-art hospital for the next generation of children." She says the topping out "highlights our vision to create a resource for families and a pediatric health network for children." The steel beam is decorated with an American flag and the beam is signed by executive team members, hospital donors and constructionworkers.

More than 14 million pounds of structural and reinforcing steel is being used in the construction of the hospital. The entire project cost, which includes much more than the hospital building, is projected to be approximately $509 million. The components of the approximately 1.3 million-sf project are the new hospital, outpatient buildings, an office building and surface and structure parking.

The new hospital will be headquarters for Children's network of care and is being built on 48 acres at the biomedical campus being developed by the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center at Fitzsimons.
