"Our public policy efforts have been focused on a solution to our economic budget crisis, which is a key component of our economic development efforts," they said in a letter to NAIOP members. They're seeking donations for the campaign budget of $5 million. The NAIOP chapter also will provide bumper stickers, brochures and signs to plant in yards to show support.

The resolution adopted by NAIOP, says that the recent recession, combined with the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, have "caused our state revenues to drop 16%, forcing Colorado to cut $1 billion in spending (during) the past three years. Without immediate relief, state officials would have to start making even more massive cuts next year in funding schools, roads and healthcare, even as the state's growing population creates for more spending."

Under the economic recovery act, in 2011 if revenues exceed the amount the state can spend on the earmarked services, the first $100 million will pay bonding obligations for construction and other needs, including schools and roads.
