The Florida locations will be in Altamonte Springs, an Orlando suburb; Clermont in neighboring south Lake County; Hunter's Creek, a 25-year-old, mixed-use community in south Orlando; Waterford Lakes, another mixed-use community in east Orange County; Orange City in neighboring Volusia County; Lakeland in Polk County; and three stores in metro Jacksonville. Kohl's has not yet identified the specific store addresses and their individual sizes. Industry sources tell GlobeSt.com the retailer generally prefers to open stores in stand-alone structures or at higher-end strip center locations rather than at a large regional shopping center. The company does business in 40 states. In Central Florida's 50-million-sf retail market, Kohl's is expected to run up against competition from Wal-Mart, Target, Beall's, JC Penney, Dillards, Sears and Kmart, Orlando area retail brokers familiar with the market tell GlobeSt.com.
