What Dornoch has in mind for the site is a multi-use, 16,670-sf complex, and focal point of which will be a public access television studio. The studio, which will offer on-site telecom training in all aspects of filming and production, will be operated by Cablevision. The two-story building will also include a computer resource center and 7,780 sf of ground-floor retail. Construction is scheduled to start in October.
Mayor Joey Torres says the deal "provides us with a forum to notify residents of community programming and city services. It will also likely serve as a catalyst to interest residents in computers and the telecommunications industry."
"This new facility will offer valuable training opportunities," adds Adam Falk, vice president of government affairs for Cablevision. His company has also given the City of Paterson a $150,000 technology grant to buy all of the studio equipment as part of its cable television franchise in the city.
Dornoch is involved in another project here as well. Dornoch Paterson LLC, another affiliate of Dornoch Holdings, has a proposal before city officials for the redevelopment of the Great Falls Historic District.
