Morrow has purchased several Interstate 75 South parcels totaling 45 acres adjoining the one-million-sf Southlake Mall. The city plans to break ground in first quarter 2006 on a $12-million, 30,000-sf National Museum of Commercial Aviation; a 70,000-sf indoor ice skating rink; 10 restaurants; a dinner theater, hotels, condominiums and a $3-million, mile-long lighted riverwalk around a portion of Jester's Creek.
To prepare for the redevelopment the city already has demolished the former Lewis Welsh Oldsmobile dealership site off Jonesboro Road. In a separate Clayton County redevelopment, Morrow also is the major player in the $750-million Gateway Village project linked to Clayton State University. About $267 million in new Gateway ventures are under way. About $500 million in other planned Gateway projects are on the drawing board, area marketers and brokers familiar with the undertaking tell GlobeSt.com.
