North American has filed revised plans for South Point Mall with city officials in McDonough, the county seat. The plans call for 570,000 sf of retail, 60,000 sf of office and nine outparcels. A residential component, included in the earlier planned 1.2-million-sf center, has been shelved. The development site is near GA 20 and GA 81 on the west side of Interstate 75.
The center has a tentative 2007 completion date but a ground-breaking date will hinge on when the McDonough City Council votes on North American's request for a rezoning of the 70-acre site, sources familiar with the project tell GlobeSt.com. Kohls and J.C. Penney are expected to be anchor tenants at South Point Mall but North American has not announced any formal lease signings.
North American Properties owns four centers in Georgia, including the 1.2 million-sf Camp Creek MarketPlace in Fulton County outside of Atlanta.
