Aspen shows that it can command top hotel rates during the summer as well as the winter, as it by far had the highest average room rates in August. The average room rate in August was $316.53 in August, more than twice the average room rate of $155.74 in Vail. The average occupancy rate in Aspen was 73.4% compared with 47.2% in Vail. Glenwood Springs, outside of Aspen, benefited, as some lodgers looked for less expensive, yet nearby, alternatives. The average occupancy rate in Glenwood was 82.2%, the highest in the state in August, while the average room rate was $127.69.

The category "other resorts," which includes Keystone, Breckenridge, Crested Butte, Telluride and Copper Mountain, had an average room rate of $174.09 and an average occupancy rate of 53.1%. Colorado Springs, the second biggest city in the state after Denver, had an overall occupancy rate of 73.4% and an overall average room rate of$88.44. The top hotels in Colorado Springs had an occupancy rate of 77.9% and an average room rate of $100.69.

The tiny tourist town of Estes Park, near the Rocky Mountain National Park, enjoyed a good August. The average occupancy rate was 80.4% and the average room rate was $145.51 in Estes.
