As previously reported, the developer, locally based Apek Creative Development, headed by Michael Kim, is negotiating with New York-based Sheraton Hotels and resorts on the hotel component.

The county's OK comes as elected officials work on a separate proposal that would open the door to high-rise mixed-use developments in Gwinnett County. However, county staffers tell GlobeSt.com the high-rise projects would be permitted only near selected areas such as the 1.9-million-sf Mall of Georgia, the 1.24-million-sf Gwinnett Place Mall, the Sugarloaf corridor and Jimmy Carter Boulevard at Interstate 85.
