PHILADELPHIA-The Delaware River Port Authority has obtained nearly $12.7 million in federal funding for improvements at area port facilities. The funding is from the new federal Safe, Accountable, Flexible and Efficient Transportation Equity Act, which provides $286.4 billion for highway and mass transit projects.

DRPA will use the largest proportion of the funding, just over $7.3 million, for improvements to the RiverLink Ferry dock at Penn's Landing to take place over the next four years. The improvements will be made in conjunction with Penn's Landing development.

Another component, aggregating just over $3.3 million, is earmarked for development of an intermodal transportation facility at the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal at the Navy Yard Business Center. The remainder will be split between the acquisition of upgraded, high-speed rail cars for the Patco system and security upgrades to the Commodore Parry Bridge.
