The Airport Authority will require the selected purchaser to complete a Development of Regional Impact and obtain the approvals for any new project from local, state and federal agencies, Airport Authority Joseph Tannehill Sr. says in a prepared statement. "We believe the DRI process will allow the property to be redeveloped to the maximum advantage and betterment of the community," Tannehill says. The winning bid will be selected March 21.

The Airport Authority plans to use the proceeds from the land sale to build a new airport on land to be donated by the St. Joe Co. of Jacksonville. "It is important to note that the sale of our airport must proceed based on established FAA guidelines," Tannehill says. "The Airport Authority has a responsibility to maximize the value we get from the sale of our existing airport. …We cannot direct the sale of our existing airport to any company or person."
