New Castle Hotels and Widewaters will share development responsibilities on the project. New Castle will manage the hotel upon its completion, which is scheduled for January 2007. It will be one of the first prototype Sheraton facilities, which were announced recently by Starwood, to be developed. The property is smaller than conventional downtown or urban Starwood hotels. The new Sheraton product is aimed at offering upscale service and brand recognition for mid-scale development costs, company officials say.
No development cost for the project was released. The hotel will also feature a full service restaurant, self-serve breakfast, a health club with an indoor swimming pool and a number of what Starwood officials termed "upscale amenities." The prototype is being developed with a 250- to 300-guest room design and the 150- to 250-guest room design for smaller markets. The hotel enters a competitive market in the area that already features the Courtyard by Marriott, the Westchester Marriott, the Springhill Suites by Marriott, Tarrytown House, the Castle on the Hudson and the Doubletree Hotel--which is currently closed for renovations until May 2006--vying for hotel guests.
