However, same-store sales at the company's specialty chains fared better. Its 36 Fleming's Steakhouse and Wine Bars came out on top, jumping 9.5%, and Outback's 87 Bonefish Grills followed, rising 6.8%.
International locations lost 28 operating days due to the hurricane. One franchise location, in Cancun, Mexico, is still closed, and executives anticipate reopening the unit early next year. Outback has a total of 139 of its namesake restaurants abroad.
During the four-week period, which ended for the locally based company Nov. 19, Outback opened 16 restaurants, bringing it across-chain total to 1,288. Its Carrabba's Italian Grills had six openings, the most in the company, expanding the chain to 199 units.
When reporting the company's quarterly results last month executives said that they were considering revamping the Outback chain with a remodels, rebranding and a new advertising campaign. During the quarter, which ended Sept. 30, its same-store sales fell 1.4%.
