Among those names were Robert AM Stern Architects of New York City and CBT/Childs Bertman Tseckares Inc. of Boston, who will compete to develop the project's residential component. In the running to be named designer of an office tower are Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP of Chicago and Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates PC and Brennan Beer Gorman Architects, both of New York City. The architects were among about 30 who applied to be part of the project.

Fallon also is negotiating with several hotel operators he hopes will build a five-star hotel and condominiums on the 21-acre site as part of the development's second phase, company officials say. The project's first phase, which is set to begin construction later next year, will bring a 22-story, 175-unit residential condominium building and a 26-story, 500,000 sf office tower to the long-vacant parcel along with a park and Harborwalk along the water's edge. Neither Elkus/Manfredi nor Fallon could be reached for comment.
