STERLING HEIGHTS, MI-Faurecia Interior Systems USA Inc., an interior systems manufacturer that supplies the automotive industry, has signed a long-term deal for 77,011 sf. The freestanding property, located at 42555 Merrill Rd., was built in 1978, and will be used for some production and distribution/storage.
According to Jack Coury of Grubb & Ellis Co.'s Southfield location, the space was completely renovated to meet the tenant's needs. "The landlord spent several hundred thousand dollars on renovation," says Coury, who is a senior vice president of Grubb & Ellis' industrial group.
Coury and colleague Chris Dowell represented the landlord, RDM Holdings of St. Claire Shores in the transaction. Information about the tenant's broker representation could not be obtained by press time. The asking price for the space was $5.50 per sf, triple net, and Faurecia ended up paying close to the market rate for lease.
The transaction represents an expansion for Faurecia, which has various production and design facilities throughout southeast Michigan, including in Auburn Hills, Riverside and Troy. Faurecia, which is headquartered in France, is a multinational company that supplies interior parts ranging from seats to dashboard knobs to auto manufacturers. Coury tells GlobeSt.com that the current property provides room for the tenant's expansion.
