LAWRENCEVILLE, GA-Gwinnett County commissioners have resolved a lawsuit filed last year by townhome developer Melvin Carroll after the county rejected his proposed development off GA 124 at Aiken Drive in suburban Atlanta.
Elected officials in the Atlanta suburb agreed to pay Carroll $744,000, or $82,667 per acre ($1.90 per sf), for nine acres that will become a section of a proposed four-lane highway loop around Lawrenceville between GA 316 and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.
Commissioners had denied Carroll's request for a higher density on the townhome project last year to protect the route of the proposed highway loop, county staffers confirm for GlobeSt.com. Carroll couldn't be reached by Globest.com's publication deadline, but area brokers familiar with the project tell GlobeSt.com the developer had asked for the higher density to make the venture profitable.
The proposed highway loop is still two or three years away, according to county staffers, because the county still needs to purchase more land along the route for the project.
