GRAND RAPIDS, MI-Sunrise Senior Living is planning to break into the Western Michigan market with construction of a 76-unit, 52,489-sf assisted living facility.

Laura Hester, senior vice president of development for the McLean, VA-based company, tells GlobeSt.com that Sunrise has the building permits and other approvals it needs to move forward the project and plans to break ground "any day." The cost of the project was not disclosed.

Hester says the community will consist of three, single-story cottages: a 21,851-sf assisted living cottage; a 14,408-sf terrace club to be used in conjunction with the assisted living program; and a 16,230-sf reminiscence facility designed for patients with Alzheimer's disease. The facility will be located on 4.47 acres within Centennial Park at 3041 Charlevoix Dr. The sale of the land was brokered by Mike Mikesell, of Signature Associates-Oncor International, who represented Sunrise in the deal.

This will be Sunrise's first assisted living facility in Western Michigan. The company has 11 facilities in the Metropolitan Detroit area with facilities in Bloomfield Hills and Grosse Pointe Woods set to open within the next few months. As of Dec. 31, the company operated 415 communities in the US, Canada, Germany and the United Kingdom with 50 more facilities under construction.
