The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong will have 286 guestrooms and suites and be situated on the upper floors of a 60-story skyscraper, with views of the Huangpu River and the Shanghai skyline. The hotel will be part of a mixed-use development of offices, retail and housing to be designed by Cesar Pelli. The project, scheduled for a 2010 opening, will be developed and owned by Hong Kong-based Sun Hung Kai Properties Ltd.
This will be Ritz-Carlton's second hotel in Shanghai, the other being the Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai located in Puxi's Shanghai Centre. The chain currently has six hotels and resorts open or under development in the country including Beijing, Financial Street (2006); Beijing, Guo Hua (2007); Guangzhou (2007), Shenzhen (2008), Hong Kong, Kowloon (2009); and Sanya (2009).
"There are few cities in the world that can rival Shanghai for the robustness of the economy and the amount of foreign investment," says Simon F. Cooper, president of Ritz-Carlton. "Currently, Shanghai is home to more than 300 Fortune 500 companies, and it is one of China's most important industrial centers."
