Kuhlman currently operates 47 units and needs to operate a total of 60 to 80 stores to meet its target, executives say. To open those new units, the company will need to raise between $6 million and $8 million in capital.
Most recently this year Kuhlman opened stores on Main Street in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia; Logan Airport in Boston; and at the Southpointe Mall in Lincoln, NE. The company also relocated two stores during the last month, one in Minneapolis and one in San Jose, CA.
Executives expect that revenues this year will double from last year's $6.4 million. Last year's sales rose 44% compared to the year before.
Kuhlman's first store opened in 2003. The company bills itself as selling European-crafted clothes at affordable prices. Late last year Luis Padilla, a former president of merchandising at Sears, joined Kuhlman as chief executive officer.
