EATONTON, GA-Developers began construction on a $60-million, 114-unit condominium development called South Bay at Lake Oconee.

The project is being developed by Atlanta-based Place Properties. It will contain 19 three-story buildings with six units in each building. The project will include a full-service marina, 200 covered dry-dock slips, a marina store and market. The project is expected to be completed in spring 2007.

Pat O'Donnell, Place Properties senior development manager, tells GlobeSt.com that the smaller size of the individual buildings will allow them to be completed in phases. "The smaller size of the buildings will allow us to finish them quickly. We expect to be completed in the spring. We'll start moving people in between February and March," O'Donnell says.

Solid wood frame construction will be used for the development. Floor plans will include units with two bedrooms and two bathrooms that range in size from 1,380 sf to 1,456 sf; units with three bedrooms and two bathrooms that range in size from 1,620 sf to 1,708 sf; units with three bedrooms and two and one-half bathrooms that have 1,840 sf; and units with three bedrooms and three and one-half bathrooms that contain 1,946 sf.

Unit amenities will include patio/balconies. Building amenities will include a swimming pool, a pavilion for outdoor events, walking paths and a children's playground.

Lake Oconee is the second largest lake in Georgia and, due to its close proximity to Atlanta and Augusta, is a popular vacation destination. "We anticipate that these will be sold primarily as second residences," O'Donnell says.
