NORTH HOLLYWOOD -The Los Angeles-based J.H. Snyder Co. plans to develop a movie theater, an office building and residential complex adjacent to its mixed-use NoHo Commons project. Snyder unveiled plans for the additions to the NoHo Commons transit-oriented development during the opening of its Lofts at NoHo Commons, a 292-unit, $100-million project at the terminus of the Metro Red Line subway and Orange Line busway.

The NoHo Commons project includes a $30-million, 60,000-sf retail portion, adjacent to the lofts and anchored by a Hows Market, that is scheduled to open in the spring. The newly announced elements of the development include a seven-screen Laemmle Theaters movie house with 1,100 seats in a stadium setting, a five-story, 100,000-sf office building and a 150-unit residential complex.

This next phase of the project, valued at $100 million, is expected to be completed in the fall of 2009, according to Jerry Snyder, the founder and senior partner of J.H. Snyder Co. The newly opened portion of the development includes 14 live/work spaces with retail store fronts on Weddington Street and 278 residential lofts, 28 of which were designated as affordable housing units.

The J.H. Snyder Co. is the master developer for NoHo Commons, which also includes the Gallery at NoHo Commons, a 438-unit apartment complex that is currently under construction. When complete, the three residential components of NoHo Commons, which will include the existing lofts as well as the Gallery and the newly announced Snyder project, will total 880 housing units within walking distance of mass transit.

The Jerde Partnership developed the master plan for the mixed-use Lofts at NoHo Commons and is the architect of the third phase, which includes the Laemmle Theater, the office building and the residential component. The architect for the Lofts at NoHo Commons was Santa Monica-based Van Tilburg, Banvard & Soderbergh.
