SAN DIEGO-Liberty Station, a 361-acre project along the San Diego Bay that the locally based Corky McMillin Cos. is developing, plans to debut 33 tenants in its retail, hotel and arts and cultural districts in the next few months. The development, which is already home to national tenants like Trader Joe's and Starbucks, lists a tenant roster in a portion of the development called the Marketplace that will include a Vons supermarket, several one-of-a-kind boutiques, a wine and picnic shop, a coffee and pastry shop and more.

The list of announced tenants includes Wine Steals, Ace Hardware, the Sail Ho Bar & Grill, Sammy's Woodfired Pizza, Coldstone Creamery, Postal Annex, Panera Bread, Da Kine's and La Salsa. The Ace Hardware store, one of 4,600 in the national chain, will be called Griffin Ace Hardware.

The hardware store recently signed a 10-year lease for a 20,000-sf space in a refurbished building within the historic Sellers Plaza area of Liberty Station. It was the first tenant to sign a lease for the 47,000-sf building, which was the enlisted personnel club at the former Naval Training Center.

Sellers Plaza and the other components of Liberty Station are being jointly developed by the City of San Diego and the Corky McMillin Cos. The project includes 125 acres of parks, open space and a boat channel; shopping villages and restaurants; a 28-acre civic, arts and cultural district; the nine-hole Sail Ho Golf Club; an additional hotel site across the boat channel, and six schools.

Sellers Plaza, slated to open in late 2007, includes nine 1920s-era buildings totaling approximately 100,000 sf of retail space with a golf course along one side and San Diego Harbor and NTC Park on the other. In addition to Sellers Plaza and the Marketplace, other elements of the development include Harbor Square and Ocean Village.

Harbor Square, adjacent to a new 200-room Courtyard by Marriott and a 150-room Hilton Homewood Suites, will be a new retail plaza featuring dining and shopping along with a large event plaza for public gatherings. Ocean Village will occupy several old industrial buildings along the water in a maritime-themed retail and light industrial area.
