"The addition of a national health and fitness facility like this to the mix supports this property as a town center and community destination," says John G. Orrico, president of the Purchase, NY-based NRDC. "With a Wal-Mart Supercenter, Cinemark and now LA Fitness, we feel the property will generate an immediate consumer approval from the surrounding area upon its opening."
That opening is actually a reopening and it's slated for the fall of 2008. CooperTowne Center is the redevelopment of the former Lions Head Plaza at the intersection of White Horse Pike and E. Evesham Ave. in this Camden County community. Built in 1986 as a 235,000-sf retail property, the center's current redevelopment was fueled by competitive factors and the demise of a series of anchor tenants.
Part of that redevelopment includes an expansion of some 150,000 sf, bulking the property up to 385,000 sf on the 52-acre site. That expansion carries a reported price tag of $15 million.
