For four decades, Grossman was a major figure in bothinstitutional real estate and in the world of retail property.Early in his career, he was founding partner and CEO of SchroderReal Estate Associates and then was associated with James D.Wolfensohn Inc.

ING tells GlobeSt.com that the senior management and staff ofING Clarion are deeply saddened by his death. "Charlie's leadershipand vision contributed to the growth of our firm, and we all werethe beneficiaries of his wisdom, wit and grace," the firm says."Charlie was a great partner and a good friend to many of us. Hewill be greatly missed. Our prayers are with his family."

In 1987, Grossman joined the other three founding partners as asenior partner of Jones Lang Wootton Realty Advisors, which, in1998, merged with ING Real Estate and became ING Clarion. Over 20years, according to a release, his leadership and visioncontributed to the growth of ING Clarion, now one of the largestreal estate investment management firms in the US. During that timehe served as portfolio manager to large public pension funds and asa member of the firm's managing executive board, of the privatemarket investment committee and of the public equity securitiesinvestment policy committee.
