MCDONOUGH, GA-Medical and consumer products companyKimberly-Clark has expanded its space at the SouthPort LogisticsCenter at 340 Westridge Parkway by 339,300 sf. The expansionfollows the 1.3-million-sf lease the company signed last year atSouthPort, which is being developed by Atlanta-based OakmontIndustrial Group.

With the expansion, the company will occupy a total of 1.638million sf. The company will take occupancy of the space in thesecond quarter 2008, when the building is completed.

Greg Haynes and Todd Barton, of CB Richard Ellis, representedOakmont. Kimberly-Clark was represented by Matthew Stauber, ofColliers Bennett & Kahnweiler, along with Ben Logue and PriceWeaver, of Colliers Spectrum Cauble. "This lease extension andexpansion validates Oakmont's initial strategy with respect todesign, function and scale," Haynes says.

SouthPort is located about 30 miles south of Atlanta in theHenry County/Interstate 75 submarket. The building providesimmediate access to Interstate 75 via Georgia Highway 20 and servescompanies distributing products in Georgia and Florida. It alsoprovides for the flow of goods through the southeastern seaports ofSavannah; Charleston, SC and Jacksonville, FL. General contractorson the project are the Atlanta-based Conlan Co. and the architectsare Randall-Paulson Architects. Bank of America is providing theconstruction financing.

SouthPort features 36-foot clear height ceilings, 650-foot depthcross-dock configuration, upgraded seven-inch floor slab, 48-footby 54-foot column spacing, 200-foot to 380-foot full concrete truckcourts with trailer storage capacity up to 736 spaces and on-sitequeuing for up to 61 tractor trailers. "We designed SouthPort on aspeculative basis with features that would satisfy the needs ofmost corporate users," says Oakmont Industrial Group presidentRichard Rider.
