Liberty Harbor is situated on the Brunswick River, 4.6 milesfrom the Atlantic Ocean. When completed, the marina will be thelargest between Charleston, SC and Miami. The Liberty Harbor YachtClub will overlook the marina and will offer water sports,entertainment and dining.

Waxman says a separate project cost for the marina has not yetbeen determined. Whether slips will be sold or leased has also notyet been determined. The first slips are expected to be ready laterin 2008. "We'll probably construct the marina in phases," hesays.

Waxman worked with the Georgia Department of Natural Resourcesand the US Coast Guard to create an environmentally sensitivemarina. The development team also funded a study by CornellUniversity's Lab of Ornithology Bioacoustics Research Program tohelp locate and better protect the endangered right whales that usethe waters off Brunswick as calving areas. The Liberty Harbor andYacht Club will provide education and training programs for clientsthat focus on safe boating practices that stress awareness andprotection of endangered marine life.
