Located 120 miles south of San Francisco, the hotel is rising ona historic waterfront site once occupied by the Del Mar Canning Co.Pacific Hotel management president Clement Chen III says a previousdeveloper started construction on the waterfront site more than 20years ago, but construction came to a halt after only a fewfoundations were poured. Construction continued intermittentlythrough the years, but the hotel remained little more than aconcept and scattered foundations until 2006, when PHM LLC tookover the project, he says.

The project "has been on the horizon for many years and we aredelighted to be the ones to bring it to life," he says, adding thatdue to city zoning limits in effect since the mid-1980s it may besome time before another is built.

The street address of the project is 750 Cannery Row. The 208rooms include 19 suites and 189 guest rooms, most with views ofMonterey Bay. All rooms have a king-size bed or two double beds,marble and granite bathrooms with soaking tubs and walk-in showers,flat-screen televisions and high-speed Internet access. Otheramenities include a restaurant and bar, a full-service spa and aKids Club.
