GILBERT, AZ-A local developer is ready to break ground on the 90,000-sf San Tan Commons. Construction will commence Thursday on the $23-million office and retail building, which already has Mountainside Fitness, an Arizona health club chain, as its lead tenant.

The three-story San Tan Commons will be situated on five acres at Val Vista Drive and Loop 202, also known as San Tan Freeway. The development will be part of the 1,400-acre Spectrum Commercial Core. Completion is scheduled for spring 2009.

James Butwin, a managing member of Grasser Investment Partnerships, says the building’s first floor will be retail, with Mountainside Fitness Center holding a 15-year lease for the entire 40,000-sf second floor. There is 32,000 sf of office space on the third floor. Butwin tells that Mountainside Fitness also could take most, if not all, of the 32,000 sf of office.
