The building houses 40 research teams, with 400 scientists,dedicated to translational medicine--a revolutionary "bench tobedside" approach that applies discoveries from the laboratorydirectly to patient care--that will drive the work at the PriceCenter/Block Research Pavilion, according to a prepared release.The building will house 40 state-of-the-art laboratories inaddition to research support facilities and a 100-seatauditorium.

The land isleased from the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation for99 years. The building's architect was Payette Associates and theconstruction manager was Tishman Construction Co. The new building is named in honor of Michael F. Price andMuriel Block and her late husband Harold, who have made the twolargest gifts in the 53-year history of the medical school. Pricemade a donation of $25 million toward the creation of the MichaelF. Price Center for Genetic and Translational Medicine at Einstein.The Price Center will be housed in the new Harold and Muriel BlockResearch Pavilion. Block's gift, valued at $22 million, is thesecond largest donation ever received by the medical school.
