The developer plans to apply for "silver" certification underthe US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy andEnvironmental Design program for new commercial buildings.Atlanta-based Colliers Spectrum Cauble is marketing the rear-loadspace along Georgia 124 near Interstate 85, in Atlanta's northeastindustrial submarket.

Sid Johnson, CEO and founder of Commonwealth Southeast, tellsGlobeSt.com that he believes Braselton Distribution Center will setthe standard for LEED certification of industrial buildings. "UScorporations are increasingly sensitive to green issues involvingenergy and environmental conservation, and we intend to be on theleading edge in response to this demand," he says.

Green elements of Braselton Distribution Center includelow-impact stormwater design, reflective roofing, reuse ofnon-potable water for irrigation, high-efficiency heating andlighting and low-emission paint, adhesives and sealants. Recycledstructural steel and concrete are being used where possible, andconstruction of the distribution center also involves using locallymade materials to reduce transportation emissions.
