Just because a building receives LEED certification for new construction does not necessarily mean it is easy to make the transition to EB, he tells GlobeSt.com. "It is one thing to develop a building for eight months according to LEED design standards. It is another thing to continue to meet these standards on an ongoing basis."
For instance the building has to comply with green cleaning standards, green maintenance and green pest control, Comm explains. The fully-occupied building, which delivered in January 2006, received its EB certification in July. Work to get a sister building, Two Potomac Yard, EB certified, is under way, Comm adds. One Potomac Yard has also earned the Energy Star designation, a joint program of the EPA and Department of Energy. The 12-story, 650,000-sf office buildings that make up Potomac Yard are a major urban redevelopment project in Arlington County.
