The Port of Houston Authority resumed normal operations latelast Thursday. Two cruse ships of Miami-based Carnival Corp. areoperating from Houston while repairs continue on their normalberths at the Port of Galveston. Area experts, in the meantime, arebreathing a sigh of relief that damages to industrial propertiesweren't worse.

"The information that we've gotten is that there's a lot ofroof-related damage. HVAC units that are on roofs, pressurizationfans used for stairwells--those were damaged. But, we're doingbetter than I thought we would be," says Stephen Ash, managing vicepresident for Transwestern Houston.

[IMGCAP(2)]Robert Clay, president of locally based ClayDevelopment & Construction Inc., also is relieved. "We'repatting ourselves on the back," he tells GlobeSt.com. "Out of the120 buildings we have, there were maybe five overhead doors thatblew out, total. Even in La Porte and Deer Park, there is nothingto report."
