Burnet tells GlobeSt.com that an upscale hotel was needed in the Downtown, though there wasn't many options available. "There had been a void in the local market when it came to luxury hotel accommodations," he says. "This was a way to restore a significant historic building and make it accessible." Foshay built the tower to resemble the Washington Monument, but never got to occupy the structure – he lost everything in the stock market crash months after the building opened.

The new hotel includes amenities such as a gymnasium, business center, 6,700 sf of meeting and event space, an observation deck, a steakhouse and the Prohibition bar on the 27th floor. Rooms include 36-inch flat screen televisions, high-speed Internet access, MP3-player dock clock radios and more. Room rates range from $220 to $700 per night. Starwood has 24 W brand hotels around the world.
