Request for Expressionsof Interest to redevelop this 50-acre stretch of land thatincludes the former DC General Hospital campus into a LEEDcertified development consisting of housing, retail, office andparkland. Several firms banded together into teams for theopportunity to bid on one of the last major urban waterfrontdevelopment projects available.

The four teams are:

  • HDG Waterfront Partners, a team led by Hunt Development andMosaic Urban Partners and that includes Abdo Development, theWilliam C. Smith Cos., EYA Development and the Jair Lynch Cos;
  • New Hill East Joint Venture, which is led by Urban Atlantic andincludes Vornado/Charles E. Smith, Trammell Crow, Elm StreetDevelopment, Blue Skye Development, Brickstone Development, EagleVision Ventures, Dynamis Advisors, Sun Edison and Ellis DenningDevelopment.
  • Hill East Development, led by the Franklin L. Haney Co. andincludes Donatelli Hill East, Chapman Development, CombinedProperties, Banneker Ventures and Tudor Holdings; and
  • East Banc.

The site can accommodate up to five-million square-feet ofresidential, commercial and mixed-use buildings including newprimary care health facilities. Most likely redevelopment will takeup to 10 years to complete, given the project's scale andcomplexity. Hill East is one of three major redevelopmentsites--along with the Southwest Waterfront project and theredevelopment of Poplar Point--that comprise the AnacostiaWaterfront Initiative. These three projects encompass more than 12million square feet of planned and ongoing development.
