The complex will be located at Duke's Mark Center--a decision that was reached after a competitive bidding process between commercial real estate developers and existing government-owned sites throughout Northern Virginia. Mark Center is a 350-acre mixed-use campus at the intersection of I-395 and Seminary Rd.
The project is being managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers. It falls under the auspices of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC) recommendation #133--namely, the relocation of various Department of Defense agencies' from leased space in Northern Virginia. The development agreement was signed at the end of November.
Duke already owns, leases and manages nearly 1.3 million square feet in 12 office buildings at Marks Center. Duke did not return a call to GlobeSt.com in time for publication.
