"The extension of Interstate 355 to Interstate 55 is right there at Bolingbrook, so with two highways intersecting, it's a natural spot for a hotel," Jerry Albom, division manager of hospitality for McShane, tells GlobeSt.com. "It's also at the new upscale Promenade shopping center, which is attracting a lot of people and businesses."
The first portion of the Promenade opened in 2007, though construction continues on the development, which is expected to be valued around $350 million when completed.
Ground was broken in June on the hotel, a division of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. It is expected to open in July, offering guests loft-like rooms with nine-foot ceilings and over-sized windows, as well as a state-of-the-art equipped meeting room, fitness center and swimming pool. Albom did not disclose guest rates for the hotel.
Plans are in progress for this aloft hotel to be followed by two more of the same brand at the Promenade, also to be developed by LTD and built by McShane. Albom says the next two hotels will be similar in size to the first one. He would not specify a timeline for the projects.
The development is located in the southwest suburbs, where Albom says there is a dearth of hotels. However, he says it's an area he expects to grow rapidly with that kind of development in the coming years.
"The Promenade has everything in there, and there's also some senior living planned," Albom says. "It's a pretty happening area that's obviously growing."
