won the bid to develop the ambitious, multi-stage project last year at Duke's Mark Center--a 350-acre mixed-use campus at the intersection of Interstate 395 and Seminary Road, here. Duke competed against other commercial real estate developers and government-owned space.

The project is being developed by Duke in conjunction with Clark Construction Group, and managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers. When it is complete in 2011, it will house Defense Department personnel from various agencies that are currently operating out of leased space in northern Virginia. The complex will become part of Ft. Belvoir.

The development calls for two multi-story office towers--of 15 and 17 stories--designed to LEED Silver, two parking garages and a public transportation center serving Mark Center that will be designed to LEED Gold.

Duke, which owns, leases and manages nearly 1.3 million square feet in 12 office buildings at Mark Center, did not return a call to GlobeSt.com in time for publication.
