Rice University provost Eugene H. Levy tells GlobeSt.com that Texas Children's Hospital 's move to the still under construction building at Main Street and University Boulevard is part of an overall set of moves for the children's hospital, meaning it's difficult to pinpoint exactly when move-in will take place. Once there, he continues, the children's hospital will remain for awhile. "This is a multiple-decade association," he remarks.

Construction was launched on the BioScience Research Collaborative in 2006, which is being constructed as a space where scientists, educators and staff from Rice University and Texas Medical Center institutions team up to conduct leading research in the medical and science fields. However, given the economy, Levy acknowledges that, while plans still exist to bring Baylor Healthcare, the University of Texas Health Sciences Center and other institutions under the BioScience Research Collaborative umbrella, the timing is still uncertain.

On the other hand, "now that the excitement of this facility and research programs are becoming obvious to everyone, we're getting an increasing sense from other institutions, wondering why they aren't there yet," Levy comments.

Though still under construction "—there are still places you can't walk without a hard hat," Levy remarks –" space in the facility is up for grabs. A fall completion is planned, Levy goes on to say. "We'll have another ceremony when the last scaffolding and hard hats are removed from the buildings," he adds.
