The seller is Glendorn LP, according to Eric Johnson, a vice president with Williams and Williams, which is schedule to conduct the live auction both on site and via the Internet on Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. EST. The general partner is listed as Fuller Brook Inc., whose principals are members of the Dorn family that built the estate in the 1920s. The listed principals -- David F. Dorn, John C. Dorn and Richard B. Dorn -- could not be reached this week for comment.

"The [owners] are just wanting to do something different with their money," Johnson tells GlobeSt.com. "It is a remote ownership and their thinking is even in this economic downturn it is a good time to sell, and that the auction method will deliver market value."

The resort will be auctioned in four parcels:

  • Parcel One – 418 (+/-) acres - The resort and its buildings, including the main lodge, known as the Big House, 14 cabins, recreational and maintenance buildings.
  • Parcel Two – 593 (+/-) acres located on the north side of the resort consisting of black cherry, red oak, ash, hard and soft maple. Estimated volume to be logged in the next five to ten years is 1,100,000 board feet.
  • Parcel Three – 194 (+/-) acres located on the south side of the resort consisting of black cherry, red oak, ash, hard and soft maple. Estimated volume to be cut in the next five to ten years is 287,000 board feet.
  • Parcel Four – 2 (+/-) acres - Known as "The Gate House" this property lies outside of Glendorn's fencing at the main gate

The opening bid for Parcel One is no less than $500,000. The minimum opening bid for Parcels Two and Three is $500 per acre, and the minimum bid for the Parcel Four is $5,000. A bid deposit of $100,000 will be required in order to register as a bidder for the first three parcels; a deposit of $5,000 will be required for bidding only on Parcel Four.
