Gaming win for Downtown Las Vegas $39.8 million, 11.5% below the same year-earlier period and 26% below July 2007. The only Clark County submarket to post a gain was North Las Vegas, which is benefitting from a casino it didn't have last year at this time, Aliante Station. Gaming win in North Las Vegas was $23.6, up 7.4% from July 2008 but still down 17.2% from $28.5 million in July 2007.

The Boulder Strip, another Clark County gaming submarket that has a new casino in operation [Eastside Cannery], saw its gaming revenue fall only 6.8% to $65.7 million from $70.5 million in July 2008. In July 2007, gaming win from the Boulder Strip was $86.9 million, 24% higher than the current total.

The biggest loser among Clark County submarkets was Laughlin, where July 2009 gaming win was $39.3 million, down 18.6% from $48.2 million in July 2008 and down 24% from $52.1 million in July 2007.

Statewide, gamblers lost $872.6 million in July, a 12.5% decrease from $997 million in the same year-earlier period. In July 2007, gamblers lost $1.14 billion statewide.

In Washoe County, home of the gaming submarkets of Reno, Sparks and North Lake Tahoe, casinos took $71.2 million from gamblers, a 19.5% decrease from $88.5 million the same year-earlier period and a 22.7% decrease from $92.1 million in July 2007.

In South Lake Tahoe, gaming win was $27.2 million, down 33.2% from $40.8 million in the same year-earlier period. In July 2007, South Lake Tahoe's gaming win was $36.7 million.

Frank Streshley, chief of the Gaming Board's Tax and License Division was not immediately available Thursday afternoon for comment.
