Majestic Realty senior vice president Stan Conway tells GlobeSt.com that Kraft Foods' decision to put this project in Union City was the culmination of a fairly exhaustive search in and around the metro Atlanta area before selecting space at the Majestic Airport Center III, a 192-acre, master-planned industrial businesses park. The park is located south of Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Ultimately, "they knew we had a site that could accommodate this facility," Conway says. "In addition to the one-million square feet, this will have 650 trailer spots and 300 car spaces." The facility, which will be built to LEED-certification standards, will break ground in January 2010, and is scheduled for completion in Fall 2010. Kraft Foods was represented by Chris Porter of Cushman & Wakefield Chicago, and Ray Stache and Beth McClurg in the Atlanta office.

The Kraft Foods transaction follows on the heels of a 155,000-square-foot build-to-suit groundbreaking at MAC III this past summer for the biotechnology company Dendreon. The two deals together take up approximately 50% of the entire industrial park and are estimated to bring nearly 1,000 jobs to the area, with help from the state of Georgia's Opportunity Zone designation. This designation was set up to attract companies to the area that would provide jobs for the local population.
