CBRE's Van Martin tells GlobeSt.com, "The property is being marketed as an unpriced offering, with a date specific call for offers forthcoming in 2010."
The Pyramid sits on 125 acres at the southeast corner of 60th Street and East Paris Avenue. The six-story research and development facility combines 333,000 square feet of office space and 242,000 square feet of laboratory space.
"The Pyramid is an institutional grade building that is truly a "plug and play" facility, incorporating everything necessary for the process of product design, testing and development,"Martin tells GlobeSt.com. "In addition to the research and development area, the building features a state of the art testing laboratory for product analysis; a two-story photo studio and separate sound room for on-site product marketing; state of the art security and data centers; and an interior shipping and receiving garage."
The iconic structure was built in 1986; 3.4 miles from the Gerald R. Ford International Airport.
Steelcase is opting to put the building up for sale, as it plans to consolidate its employees into its current headquarters. Personnel will slowly begin to move out of the building into the headquarters facility over the next three years. The transition could be expedited should a sale happen soon, Martin says. The company specializes in the creation of interior architecture, furniture and technology products.
CBRE's Van Martin is overseeing the deal, with the help of Drew Miller of the Grand Rapids office and Mark Collins of the Detroit office.
