According to a release from the Johns Creek, GA-based REIT, formerly known as Wells REIT, the State of New York has occupied space in the building since 1997 and will continue its tenancy at 60 Broad April 2019. The lease is comprised of five separate state agencies, and represents the largest tenant in the 984,000-square-foot property, with the city's two agencies representing the second largest occupier at 60 Broad.
A Cogswell Realty team including Arthur Stern, Anthony Stapleton, Eric Sarner and Ross Jacobs represented Piedmont in both deals, as its exclusive leasing agent at 60 Broad. Stern, CEO of Cogswell, gives credit in a release to the city and state negotiating teams, led respectively by Jeff Kondrat and Scott Bernstein for the city and by Jim Sproat and Don Courselle for the state.
Piedmont has renewed a number of large government tenants in recent months. At Piedmont's 3100 Clarendon Blvd. in Arlington, VA, the Department of Defense opted this past September to stay in its 221,084-square-foot space through 2018. In August, the Food and Drug Administration renewed its 108,518 square-foot space at 9200 Corporate Blvd. in Rockville, MD, while the US Citizenship and Immigration Services signed a new 15-year lease at 5000 Corporate Ct. in Holtsville, NY.
