"We are very excited that the first green hotel in Quebec will be a Holiday Inn Express, opening with our new sign," says Gina LaBarre, SVP in the Americas for IHG. "This property is a reflection of the Holiday Inn Express focus on providing a smart choice for value-conscious business and leisure travelers."

To achieve this, the 94-room Holiday Inn utilizes high efficiency energy distribution, ultra-insulated building, and LED and low voltage fluorescent lighting.

Additionally, all the furniture in the property was made within 12 miles of the hotel. The gravel under and around the hotel is cement from a recently demolished bridge. The mattresses were custom made to include natural fibers, including bamboo and soya bases.

"We have invested $10 million with the goal of providing visitors of the area with a hotel that is sustainable and eco-friendly while maintaining a relaxed atmosphere with all the latest in comfort, and we are happy with the end result," says Pierre Gilles Gauvin, general manager of the hotel.

Beyond the green additions, the hotel's amenities include an indoor heated pool, more than 1,000 square feet of meeting space and a fitness center.
