FDA staff will move into a 1960's era office and warehousebuildingthat JBG has renovated and for which it recently receivedLEED Goldcertification. Called Element 12420, it is located onParklawn Drivenear the Twinbrook Metro. FDA plans to move in by theend of 2010 orearly 2011.

Green elements to the renovation include new energy-efficientsystemsand windows. JBG has eight LEED-registered projects near theTwinbrookMetro, including a mixed-use development that isLEED-NeighborhoodDevelopment Gold certified. JBG did not return acall to GlobeSt.comin time for publication.

The FDA lease is the latest of what is estimated tobe a five million-square-foot pipeline of leases largely intendedfor the DC area market. Last month, the General ServicesAdministration took 40,996 square feet at One ConstitutionSquare in the District to temporarily house workers as renovationson its headquarters areunderway. At the end of the year, theHealth &Human Services Administration reneweda 187,000-square-footlease at the at the Aerospace Building in SW foranother fiveyears.
