Green, who was named to the position in 2000, began his career at Marcus as a regional manager in 1981. His titles since have included senior vice president and, from 1996 until his appointment as president and CEO, that of chief operating officer. He lead the firm into what has been called the largest investment real estate brokerage firm in the nation, including more than 1,200 investment real estate specialists located in more than 70 offices. In 2009, Marcus & Millichap closed 3,441 transactions. He also was responsible for the development and implementation of the firm's investment real estate training program. During his 39-year career, Green has initiated deals valued at nearly $6.6 billion.

Millichap, the co-chairmen stated that, "Harvey's tireless energy, dedication and passion have been driving forces behind the firm's tremendous expansion and emergence as the leader in investment brokerage. His expertise has been instrumental in establishing our brand through the national media, which have come to rely on Harvey as an industry spokesperson. Harvey's willingness to help agents and managers at a moment's notice and his ability to recognize and develop talent are among his best known attributes."

The memo continued with: "We are currently in the process of finalizing the firm's management succession plan with Harvey's input and participation."
