Student housing is one of the best performing sectors ofthecommercial real estate industry, together withmultifamily.Recently experts at RealShare's Student HousingConference said thatspring pre-leasingactivity was strong enough for them to put the past12 monthsbehind them and view NOI for the upcomingyear with optimism. "Westarted off last year very nervous, but we started off thisyearmore relaxed," said Donna Preiss, CEO of T=the Preiss Co."Demandfor student housing is at an all-time high."

Also speaking at the event was Peter Katz, senior vice presidentofinvestments for Marcus & Millichap, who notedthat whilestudent housing could not be deemedrecession resistant--it was recession resilient. "The economicdownturn has taken a small toll, but occupancy and rents haveremained stable," he said.
